'It is advisable to look from the tide pool to the stars and then back to the tide pool again,' wrote John Steinbeck in The Log from the Sea of Cortez . Tide pools are home to starfish, sea anemones and all kinds of marine invertebrates. The rocky pools are found in the intertidal zone also know as the seashore. Tide pools experience a variety of conditions including full sun or complete submersion under water, depending on the weather or tide. The life forms that can reside in these tough conditions use survival techniques like cloning and regeneration; this could be why they are of such interest to marine biologists.
Three rediscovered rolls of Kodachrome film were taken by Jim Mueller during his adventures to Shi Shi Beach in 1978, 1979 and 1980. Shi Shi is a crescent shape area located on Washington 's Olympic Peninsula. It isn't easy to get to- there are steep trails, bogs, boardwalks and bridges to navigate for access to the sandy beaches. Shi Shi is a famously beautiful part of the Olympic National Forest and is a go-to place for tide poolers, bird watchers and explorers.
